Over the summer, it’s important to stay connected so you can receive information about Arts & Science. Be sure to watch for emails from your college and the faculty. Your college will be your home base for the duration of your undergraduate education. It is your first stop for academic advising and referrals to other resources on campus. They will be communicating with you and sending helpful information leading up to September.
Participate in Arrive Ready
Arrive Ready is a free online program that includes:
- One-on-one support from an upper-year student offering tips for starting U of T
- Weekly webinars where you can get to know your peers and future professors
- Study groups and modules to prepare you for university-level learning
Watch your inbox for Arrive Ready emails starting in late May and be sure to add @utoronto.ca addresses to your email safe senders list.
ACTIVATE YOUR UTORID AND U OF T EMAIL ADDRESS
New students are required to convert their JOINid to a UTORid in order to get a U of T email account and gain access to online services such as course content, library resources, campus Wi-Fi and more.
Visit the TCard website for step-by-step instructions on how to activate your UTORid and set up your U of T email address online.
Once activated, your U of T email address is what your instructors and the University will use to communicate with you. You need to set up your U of T email address before classes begin.
MEET QUERCUS
You can find help planning for first year on Quercus, U of T’s online learning platform. There are resources and videos to help you prepare for course enrolment, including advising webinars and Q&A sessions hosted by academic advisors at your college. If you participate in Arrive Ready this summer, you will also use Quercus to access the learning modules, recorded webinars and other resources. Log on to Quercus with your JOINid/UTORid and password and open your Quercus dashboard to learn more.
CONNECT WITH YOUR COLLEGE
Throughout the summer, your college will be offering programming, peer e-mentorship support, welcome sessions and other resources to prepare you for the upcoming academic year.

Plan your schedule and make a draft timetable
You have done your research and are excited about the interesting courses available. Before enrolment day arrives, mock up a weekly schedule using the Timetable Builder. Visit the Course Planning page on the Arts & Science website for instructions on how to use this helpful tool to build and download your mock timetable. Keep in mind that not every course listed in the Academic Calendar will be offered every term. Only the courses listed in Timetable Builder are available for you to enrol in each academic year.
See these sample timetables for reference.
NOTE: These timetables have been created for illustrative purposes only – your own timetable may look different from the one shown for your admission category. For information on how to choose your courses, go back to Step 1 and click on your admission category.
Log into ACORN
In late June, log into ACORN, the student information system where you can:
- Enrol in your courses
- View final grades and your academic history
- Review your fees and finances
- Perform other tasks such as making updates to your address and contact information
Log in with your JOINid/UTORid and password. Note: You will be required to enrol in UTORMFA, U of T’s multi-factor authentication solution, within 14 days of converting your JOINid to a UTORid in order to access ACORN.
Save courses in your enrolment cart
You can start adding your selected courses to your enrolment cart in ACORN starting in mid-June. Saving courses in your cart is a great way to plan ahead. It will also help you when you are rushing to enrol at your start time; all you will have to do is officially enrol in each course in your cart.
If you are adding courses into the enrolment cart, use the “check availability” feature for each of your courses the day before your enrolment date to obtain the most up-to-date information.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You will NOT be automatically enrolled in courses in your enrolment cart. You must log in and enrol in each course at your specific start time.
Check your enrolment time on ACORN
Your start time indicates the earliest date and time at which you can start enrolling in your courses. Check your enrolment time on ACORN in early July.
REGISTER WITH ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES
Accessibility Services helps students who have a disability, injury or mental health challenge in navigating barriers to their academic success. To access these services and supports, you must register with Accessibility Services before the deadline (typically in mid-July).
